It was wonderful to see Prestfelde pupils and staff playing their part in one of Shrewsbury’s most popular community events, the Shrewsbury Half & Metric Half Marathon.
Our young Prestfeldians volunteered their time at the finish line, helping to welcome runners as they completed either the 13.1-mile Half Marathon or the 8.1-mile Metric Half Marathon. From handing out medals and goody bags to congratulating runners as they crossed the finish line, our pupils were enthusiastic and generous with their time, helping to create a warm welcome for participants at the end of their races.
Volunteering at community events such as this is a great opportunity for our pupils to step outside school and play an active role in the wider Shrewsbury community. They approached their responsibilities with confidence, courtesy and plenty of enthusiasm, showing the importance of giving your time to help others and being part of something bigger than yourself.
Alongside our pupils, Mr T joined a team of Prestfelde supporters who came out in force to cheer on our staff runners. There was a fantastic atmosphere as colleagues, families and supporters encouraged the runners along the route and celebrated their achievements at the finish.
Our Prestfelde runners embraced the challenge with courage and determination, supporting one another along the way and, most importantly, all completing the course. It was lovely to see the same sense of teamwork and encouragement that we see across school brought to the event.
We are immensely proud of our pupils for the way they represented Prestfelde and for willingly giving their time to support a much-loved local event. Their involvement was a great example of the importance we place on being active members of our community and looking for opportunities to help others.
From our youngest volunteers cheering runners across the finish line to our staff taking on the challenge themselves, it was a wonderful example of the Prestfelde community coming together.
Confidence to step forward. Curiosity to get involved. Courage to take on a challenge. And care for others.
Just another example of our Prestfelde community at its best.
