Admissions Process
Becoming a pupil at Prestfelde School is made seamless and very easy by our Admissions Team. Working through the Admissions Process, we will get to know your child and your family, to ensure that we provide the exact support that your child needs in order to flourish.
Our 8-step process is very simple and straight-forward:
Your journey with Prestfelde School begins with that very first telephone call, email or drop-in visit. However you contact us, we will always be very pleased to see you. Here to answer all of your questions and to help you on your search for a new school, Prestfelde’s Admissions Team will become your primary contacts from this point on. Requesting basic contact information and an understanding as to what you are looking for, we will invite you to come and take a look at the School for yourselves, as part of a private tour.
At a time that suits you, our Admissions Team will warmly invite you to visit Prestfelde and experience the unique atmosphere of our school community. During your visit, we’ll take you on a personalised tour of our beautiful 30-acre campus, where you’ll have the chance to explore our outstanding facilities and see our pupils engaged in learning—both in the classroom and outdoors.
You’ll also be introduced to our Headmaster, Mr Thavenot, who will be delighted to meet you for an informal chat and share more about the values and vision of Prestfelde.
Tours typically last around an hour, with additional time to meet with Mr Thavenot and ask any questions you may have.
After your Tour, should you want to progress your application to Prestfelde School, you will be asked to complete a ‘Registration of Interest Form‘. This does not guarantee you a place at the school, but it does enter your details within the official Admissions Process. You will also be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of £120 from Reception to Yr8 and £100 for nursery pupils.
Stay & Play
If you are looking for a Nursery place at Prestfelde, you and your child will be invited to come along to Stay & Play sessions run free of charge by the school. This gives you and your little one the chance to join in the fun and to see if Prestfelde is the right fit for you. Stay & Play sessions run on the last Thursday of every month. If you like these, you will be invited to come to an official Taster Session with Miss Adams and the team, in Little P.
Taster Day
For pupils across the rest of the School, once we have received a completed Registration of Interest Form, your child will be invited to come along to a Taster Day, so they can try out what life is like at Prestfelde. They will be assigned with one or two ‘buddies’ who, along with all of the teaching staff, will take good care of them throughout the day. There is no need to worry! Joining in with all of the classes, your child will enjoy a delicious lunch at school too.
For children joining us in Years 3–8, our Admissions Team will ask you to complete a CAT4 assessment online before your child’s taster day.
The CAT4 assessment helps us build a picture of your child’s individual learning profile, highlighting their strengths and areas for development. It looks at different areas of reasoning, including verbal, quantitative, non-verbal and spatial skills.
Alongside the taster day and the information provided by your child’s current school, the assessment helps us to understand how your child learns best and how we can support them to thrive at Prestfelde.
For children joining Little Prestfelde, we will carry out a short, age-appropriate assessment during the taster day itself.
All being well, after a brilliant Taster Day experience, your child and our Academic Team will all agree that Prestfelde is indeed the perfect place! At this point, you will be sent an official Letter of Acceptance for your child. This reserves you a place at Prestfelde School.
Once we have received confirmation of your acceptance and your £500 (refundable at the end of your time at Prestfelde), your child will be added to our secure Admissions database and work will begin with regards allocating a class and a starting date.
All new pupils are invited along to take part in Prestfelde’s ‘Move-Up Day’ at the end of the Summer term. Introducing them to their new teachers, they get the opportunity to be in their new class and to get to know their new class mates for a day. It’s a great way to alay any nervousness before school begins again in September.
Whilst the children are enjoying Move-Up Day, the parents are invited to take part in an informal workshop, where you will get to meet the rest of the team that will be supporting and interacting with your child when they start at Prestfelde. From Matron, IT team and Bursar, through to Minibus Driver, Reverend and School Uniform Shop, you will have the opportunity to chat, ask questions and meet other new parents. It’s a useful session that we know you will enjoy.
